China has achieved another milestone in the self-reliance of aeroengine core materials. According to CCTV News, Li Jiarong, chief engineer at AECC Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials, said China has achieved independent development of single-crystal turbine blade materials — the second-generation single-crystal superalloy DD6 delivers performance superior to or on par with second-generation single-crystal superalloys widely used in Europe and the U.S.
Single-crystal turbine blades are the critical hot-section components of aeroengines and gas turbines. Produced through directional solidification, they are widely regarded as a "crown jewel" of materials science and manufacturing. The achievement strengthens supply-chain security for domestically developed high-bypass turbofan engines and advanced fighter propulsion systems.
